How the strategies are modeled
Every path starts with the same first-year annual spending. Inflation-adjusted spending increases that amount once per year. Level spending keeps the nominal amount unchanged. Portfolio percentage recalculates annual spending at the start of each year using the initial spending-to-portfolio percentage.
Withdrawals occur at the beginning of each month and the remaining balance then receives a steady equivalent monthly return. The comparison does not model variable returns, sequence risk, taxes, fees, benefits, or changing needs. It illustrates rules rather than recommending a strategy.
