How savings rate is calculated
Savings rate = monthly savings and investments ÷ monthly take-home income × 100. Monthly spending is the remaining take-home income. Use consistent after-tax amounts from a typical month.
Include money you intentionally keep for the future, such as cash savings and investment contributions funded from take-home pay. Do not count ordinary spending or regular debt payments. If you choose to count extra principal payments as saving, apply that choice consistently.
The months and days shown are equivalent shares of annual take-home income, not literal time purchased or a prediction of retirement. Irregular income, employer contributions outside take-home pay, taxes, returns, and inflation are not modeled. No inputs are saved.
